Journal Club: HFCS vs. sucrose

I'd like to start a new series where I present an interesting paper in a way that they are accessible to non-scientists. Today is an article that presents some puzzling results when comparing sucrose to HFCS consumption in rats. There are some methodological problems with how they conducted the study, but it's still an interesting result, and would be good to see it repeated.

1. PubMed, so you can do your own research:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/

2. PubMedCentral, which is JUST free full text articles:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/

3. The original, full-text article:

4. Here's another key paper that they cite (Avena et al 2006), it covers the topic of addiction behavior in sweeteners:

Understanding this one is really important in light of the surprising findings presented.

Thanks, guys! Artificial sweeteners and fluoride are still in progress. I will be addressing some recent criticisms on Draw Mohammed Day in a very brief video as well.
