Money, happiness and eternal life - Greed

Can money and power ever make us happy? How much is enough? Our constant desire for more is part of our human nature.

"Nobody in the bible is pure."

"Everybody in the bible is a rich man."

"The bible don't talk about proverty".

But is greed getting the better of us? Find out in GREED - A FATAL DESIRE.

From Buddhists and bankers to Eskimos and psychologists, we explore the phenomenon of greed with people from all walks of life. How can it be defined? What makes us greedy? And what are the repercussions?

People like to have a lot of stuff because it gives them the feeling of living forever," says American social psychologist Sheldon Solomon. He thinks we have to come to terms with our own mortality before we can break the cycle.

Are there other ways to feel happy and content? Can we simply stop being greedy by changing the way we think?

Solar Eclipse 101

On August 21, 2017, the long-anticipated total solar eclipse will darken the skies from Oregon to South Carolina as the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun. The last time the contiguous United States saw a total solar eclipse was in 1979, and the next one won’t be until 2024.

Learn more about the science and significance of this phenomenon and the best way to view it—whether you’re in the “path of totality” or elsewhere (New Yorkers, for example, will be able to see the Moon cover about 70 percent of the Sun)—with Jackie Faherty of the Department of Astrophysics, and Joe Rao, Hayden Planetarium associate, in a discussion moderated by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium.

Xenu from Scientology explained

I had to share this chilling sequence from "Going Clear", even better than the South Park version, for being less comical and more haunting, fantastic montage, fantastic documentary, two of the most informative, and mesmerizing hours of my life...

Yes I could be categorized as "christian" and a lot of people are quick to point out that Scientology is no different from any other stupid and brainwashing religion... I disagree, no other religion asks for that much money for you to become a better believer, other religions have gods to worship, and in my religion in particular, the river in which Jesus was baptized is still there, Jerusalem is still there, the bible is historically accurate in a great portion, and the creation myth (which i take as metaphorical, not literal) doesn't use modern features in what was supposed to be the beginning of time... not mentioning that the big bang and the creation are very similar...

i'm not saying Christianity is right nor true (you and I can't prove nor disprove it) I respect every religion with good principals, but Scientology is not a religion... created by a science fiction author, pay plan from the beginning, harassment inside, and also after you leave...

Terry Pratchett: 'Imagination, not intelligence, made us human'

Sir Terry Pratchett is one of the modern world's most renowned authors. The 38 tales of the Discworld series, set in a strange yet strangely familiar world on the back of a giant turtle, have defied the limits of genre and attracted adoring fans around the world. Translated into 32 languages and selling over 60 million copies worldwide, Pratchett received a knighthood in 2009. He has been winner of the British Science Fiction Award, the Carnegie Medal, the Writers Guild Award and the Smarties Prize Silver Award. - Terry Pratchett is also Britain's most shoplifted author.

In this exclusive Melbourne appearance, the satirist, novelist and much-loved icon joins Michael Williams for a broad, entertaining discussion at RMIT's Storey Hall. Touching on Pratchett's early work as a journalist, his first forays into fiction and his thoughts on death and religion, the author also shares insights into his stories and characters.

Pratchett opens with a preview — read by his 'insistent', Rob Wilkins — of Sam Vimes' exploits from the forthcoming 39th Discworld book.
